Sunday Igboho Speaks Again.

The media aide to the Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, Dapo Salami, on Tuesday said the Commisioner for information in Ogun State, Waheed Odusile, who denied that the state government didn't invite his boss to drive criminal Fulani herdsmen away from the state, lacked the right information.

Salami said his principal had decided not to honour any invitation without an official backing again.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, through Odusile, had denied seeking Igboho’s help curb insecurity in the state.

But Salami who spoke with some reporters in Ibadan on Tuesday said nobody was killed during his principal's visit to Ogun State on Monday.

He described rumours of violence in Ogun during Igboho's visit as the work of some mischievous elements working against the interest of Yoruba nation.

Citing the example of the incident in Igangan where nobody was killed during Igboho's visit there, Salami said despite police report and the evicted Seriki Fulani of Igangan saying no one was killed, some newspapers reported deaths.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has expressed concerns at the alarming rate which illegal immigrants pass through the nation’s land borders to perpetrate crime in the country.

Akeredolu raised the concern on Tuesday in Akure when playing host to Mrs Dora Amahian, Zonal Coordinator, Nigeria Immigration Service, Zone F, comprising Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States.

The governor said that Nigerians would be shocked to know the number of illegal immigrants who daily come into the country through the land borders.

He said that there was a need for urgent action to tackle the issue of illegal foreigners becoming permanent residents of the country.

Universities To Be Shut From February 5th.

The Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) will go ahead with its planned indefinite strike, starting from Friday, February 5.

Naija News reports that the meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, SSANU and NASU ended in a deadlock.

Speaking to newsmen after the 4-hour closed-door meeting, General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, said union leaders lacked powers to direct their members to suspend the action.

Also speaking, Ngige said they made progress during the meeting by setting up a joint committee that would address all issues raised about IPPIS.

The joint committee, according to him, included the Unions, members of the government side from the Ministry of Education; Salary, Wages and Income Commission; Office of Accountant-General and the National University Commission.

The varsity workers are going on strike to press home their demands, bordering on alleged injustice on sharing formula of N40bn Earned Allowance and non-payment minimum wage arrears.

Other contentious issues raised include: inconsistencies in the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), delay in renegotiation of FG/NASU and SSANU 2009 agreement, non-payment of retirement benefits of outgone members among others.
