Recalled that the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide had issued a one-month ultimatum to the President, Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate a substantive board of NDDC else the safety of oil facilities in the region will be uncertain. This ultimatum was issued on 25th April 2021 to the President and Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC).

After a stakeholders' Congress organized by Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt on Sunday, 25th April 2021, the President of the Council, Comrade Peter Igbifa declared the ultimatum.

According to Comrade Igbifa, the council concluded to give FG and President Buhari a one-month ultimatum to inaugurate the Board for the NDDC. This is our critical agency in the south-south region and for that, let it be clear that from now (25th May) till one month if you refuse to inaugurate the Board, then the safety of oil operation is uncertain in the region.

Following the ultimatum, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio has visited High Chief Government Ekpemupolo in Oporoza, the City of Gbaramatu Kingdom.

According to reports, Sen. Akpabio's visit is linked to the ultimatum issued by Chief Government Tompolo. Chief Government had issued an ultimatum to the federal government to inaugurate a substantive board for the NDDC.

In conjunction with the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Chief Government had warned that any attempt to snub the ultimatum will amount to shutting down all oil facilities in the region. He added that the Nigerian economy will be crippled if the FG fails to adhere to the ultimatum.

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs was received by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro and Chief Dennis Otuaro. The minister and his entourage landed at the Osubi Airport, Warri en route to Oporoza the capital of Gbaramatu Kingdom.
