The Imo state police command today, the 6th of June, announced a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in the state.

Some gunmen alleged to be members of the proscribed group, the IPOB were gunned down while attempting to attack a police station in the state.

The report confirmed that the IPOB/ESN number 1 killer squad commander, Dragon who has been confirmed to be an ex-soldier, was shot dead today alongside five of his members.

This news comes as the group has been fingered as the mastermind of over 70% of the atrocities being committed in Imo state.

Recall Imo state has been a hotbed of deadly clashes between the police and the ESN gunmen.

Over 6 police stations have been burnt down, several lives have been lost including that of former presidential adviser, Ahmed Gulak.

Sometime last week, a video made the rounds showing some ESN members assaulting a resident of the state. This took place after the group declared a sit-at-home to commemorate the May 30th Biafran remembrance day.

While it is within every Nigerian's rights to associate freely and move freely, the ESN on that day, denied some Nigerians the right to those activities.

A few months ago, a major ESN commander, Ikonso was shot dead, and that that caused a major upset to the ranks of the ESN and IPOB in general.

Although the clashes failed to end, the death of Dragon, however, will create a big vacuum in the group's leadership.

Dragon, according to the police, has been the mastermind of over 70% of the attacks in Imo state.

Some areas that have suffered major attacks in the state include Police stations, State correctional facilities, Majestrate and high courts, INEC offices, and Private homes including country home of Governor Uzodimma and one Chief Ugba who was accused of planting cameras to monitor the ESN.

All these were reportedly masterminded by Dragon and his death will, to a certain level, put a stop to the clashes.

For some time, the southeast has continually called out the security agencies for harassing innocent citizens and not facing the gunmen, this victory has put all that to rest as this clearly shows the security agencies are doing their work.

It is worthy to note that Dragon's death comes as he was about to attack a police station for the second time.

Just like Ikonso, Dragon's charms failed him completely as he was dropped by the superpowers of the Nigerian police force.

The ESN had come up with the primary aim of safeguarding the southeast against the attacks of the deadly herdsmen but they have turned out to be the Enemies of their region with the recent attacks.

The group has lost a hitman and the war against terrorsim inthe region has recorded a huge win.

The security agencies are also, advised not to relent in their efforts to completely flush out criminality from the region.
